In the Land of the Free? (or Nah?)

We, as Americans, are in "The land of the free". What does that truly mean though? Are we really free? What does free actually mean to Americans? One of the definitions says, able to act or be done as one wishes. So why is the government still debating about the subject of gay marriages? I was talking to my good friend Jordan and he had said "If straight people can be married and hate each other, then why can't gay people get married and love each other?" That really got me thinking. People should be able to be united in a partnership no matter what their sexuality is. Why discriminate? On procon.org, they state “Denying same-sex couples the right to marry stigmatizes gay and lesbian families as inferior and sends the message that it is acceptable to discriminate against them.” Its not because they just want to be different, it’s because they want to be loved just like everyone else. They want to get married and have kids just like everyone else. They want to be happy and free just like everyone else. Let them do what they want to do! Why not have the United States actually go by what they say? They get treated as if they are a different color or race. No they are African American, Hispanic, Caucasian, Asian and etc. They look and dress like everyone else and all they want to do is be happy. The government tries so hard to stop discrimination and wants everyone to be treated equal but they are doing nothing to resolve this issue. Gay marriages should be legal. This issue shouldn’t have been a discussion at all.

  1. i am guessing the thesis is "is america really free?" this is a great point for your blog. make is more obvious like separate the thesis from the body paragraphs.

  3. you did an excellent job at supporting your thesis which i believe is the questions you asked. you also referenced your source but you didn't really analyze well. try talking about what the quote is saying then continue. also you should use indicators like "this shows that' this suggest that...etc"
